Chapter Seven (Day 4: The Egg Drop)

She hadn’t kissed him yet.

She went to sleep almost as soon as her head hit the pillow because the weed exhausted her. When they got ready the next morning, there were flirty smiles, but neither of them made a move. The friction that usually kept them at each other’s necks was now replaced with a jittery sexual tension that made her giggle and him blush.

They ate breakfast with their usual group, pretending things hadn’t changed the night before. Yolanda chatted with the people around her, but was hyper-aware of how close Samuel sat. Her body was in a perpetual state of flush when they brushed shoulders or caught one another’s eye.

When they put their breakfast plates away, Yolanda pulled him aside. “Okay, TB Buddy, this is your first lesson.”

Samuel was alert, looking around for a surprise attack. “What?”

She grinned. “Joanne is going to gather us up for another TB Activity and I want you to accept anything that she gives us. No matter how silly or embarrassing. Just go with it.”

“What if it’s another group thing?” he asked nervously.

“Same thing,” she insisted. “You need to take a step back and not alienate your team members with rigid rules. Recognize the urge you have and consciously bury it.”

His expression grew confused as he crossed his arms over his chest. Today’s polo shirt was a powder-blue that looked lovely against his tanned skin. “It feels like I’d be burying a large portion of my personality.”

Yolanda had to consider his words. “True, but you have to remember that this is a different rhetorical situation. In a silly team-building exercise, you’re just trying to have fun… and part of that is fitting in with your audience.”

He chewed on his bottom lip, which was really cute and distracting. Her eyes followed his movements as he pieced together her advice. “I don’t have to smoke weed, do I?” he finally asked.

“Oh my god, of course not,” she said with a startled laugh. “We’re not complete teenagers. I’m not here to haze you.”

He looked visibly relieved. Jesus, is that what he thinks of me?

“I’m just asking you to consider the feelings of the people around you,” she explained. “Loosen up and be ready for possibilities.”

Samuel nodded. “Possibilities…”

“Exactly.”

His eyes fell to her mouth. “All possibilities?” The unmistakable heat in his forest-green eyes made her swallow. He was referring to something else, maybe their kiss, and the suggestion brought her right back to the heavy arousal she felt last night.

“Right,” she whispered.

“I’m talking about a possible kiss,” he said. “A bug interrupted us last night and I kinda want to explore that if you’re willing.”

She bit back a grin. “We need to work on your flirting skills,” she said in a low voice.

He gave her a serious nod. “That’s a part of my fun training?”

“Yes, but right now, we’ll start with your autocratic tendencies in group settings. You don’t always need to lead with a firm hand.”

“Oh wow, Fox Cabin is having a secret meeting,” Dean Craig asked as he sidled up beside them.
